Colton sprayed gravel as he pulled around Sadie’s truck and headed back toward town.

Lunch? Forget it. He couldn’t eat now if his life depended on it.

Her and all her preposterous accusations. Unbelievable. But more to the point, his own thoughts and feelings were absolutely ludicrous. How on earth could he stand there listening to her accuse him and his family and then the Samsons of arson and still be so darned attracted to her?

He tromped on the gas pedal and then realized he had already hit the outskirts of town. Better slow down. Don’t want any more trouble.

Trouble. If you asked him, Sadie Dixon was trouble. Right down to that soft, tanned skin of hers. Those snappy green eyes and long brunette locks didn’t help matters. Yeah, he hated confrontations, especially with women. They always had the upper hand. Another guy you could punch. Instead all he could think about was kissing Sadie.

No wonder some pompous country music star had fallen for her. But the fact that she’d gotten involved with a married man didn’t bode well with him. His pulse quickened. Maybe she hadn’t known he was married.

His body drooped. What was he thinking? She’d accused him of arson and worse. The fire warden, sheriff, and the insurance investigator would figure this whole mess out.

Meantime, he would avoid Sadie like the plague—for more reasons than one.
